TL;DR — What You'll Learn
  • Deepwing Egg Clumps are in the Old Habitat, near the Brooder's nest. High risk, high reward.
  • Fish eggs can be hatched in an Alien Containment unit for infinite food without hunting.
  • Creature eggs are not for eating raw. Cook them or hatch them. Raw eggs give you parasites.

Subnautica 2 creature eggs

Eggs are scattered everywhere and the game does not explain what to do with them. Some are food. Some hatch into creatures. Some are crafting materials. Here is what each one does.

Deepwing Egg Clump

Location: Old Habitat, near the Deepwing Brooder's nest. This is inside the creature's territory. You will get attacked getting in and out.

Use: Cook into Pavlova (80 cal, 70 water, 10 health) or use in high-tier crafting. Do not eat it raw.

Fish Eggs (Halfmoon, Geordie, Threemoon)

Location: Scattered across the Shallows, Jelly Barrens, and Coral Gardens. Look for small translucent spheres on the seabed near schools of fish.

Use: Place in an Alien Containment unit to hatch. The fish breed inside. Transfer excess to your aquarium for infinite food. One containment unit of Halfmoon eggs means you never hunt for food again.

Needler Eggs

Location: Observatory region in Karakorum. Needler Nests are marked on your scanner once you are close.

Use: Creature Enamel for crafting Enameled Glass. Required for Depth Modules and Impact Armor. One of the most important eggs to farm.

Leviathan Eggs

There are no Leviathan eggs in the current Early Access build. Any egg labeled as Leviathan in old guides is from a mod or from the original Subnautica. Do not waste time looking for them.

How to hatch eggs

Build an Alien Containment unit in your base (2× Glass, 2× Titanium). Place eggs inside. They hatch after a set time. Hatched creatures behave like wild ones. Hostile creatures will attack you even if you raised them from an egg. Keep that in mind before you put a Hammerhead egg in the tank next to your bed.
