AC Black Flag Resynced Ship Combat : How to Win Every Naval Battle
Master the Jackdaw. When to use broadsides, mortars, fire barrels, and ramming. How to board efficiently and win fights against stronger ships.
- •Board ships instead of sinking them. You get double the loot, free repairs, and crew.
- •Fire barrels deal massive damage. Shoot enemy fire barrels with swivel guns before they reach you.
- •Mortars are for long-range softening. Broadsides are for close range. Ram only when you have the hull upgrade.
Naval combat is half the game. Most players just spam broadsides and wonder why they lose to bigger ships. Here is how to actually win.
When to use each weapon

Board, do not sink
Sinking gives you half the loot. Boarding gives you full resources, crew replenishment, free repairs, and the option to add the ship to Kenway's Fleet for passive income. Board every ship you can.
Fire barrel trick
Fire barrels deal the most damage in naval combat. But the real trick: enemy ships fire their own fire barrels at you. Shoot those barrels with your swivel gun before they hit you. The explosion damages the enemy ship. Three hits disables most ships.
Legendary Ship prep
Before attempting any Legendary Ship:
- Elite hull
- Elite cannons
- Elite mortars
- All three officers (Tobias Smith adds an extra broadside volley)
