Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Beginner's Guide : 12 Tips for Your First Hours
Master the Caribbean fast. Best ship upgrades, combat tips, stealth basics, treasure hunting, and the mistakes every new pirate makes in Black Flag Resynced.
- •Upgrade the Jackdaw's cargo hold first, then hull, then cannons. Board ships instead of sinking them for double rewards.
- •Use Eagle Vision constantly. It marks enemies, objectives, and treasure through walls. RT/R2 tags enemies permanently.
- •Hunt animals early. Skins upgrade your health, ammo pouches, and holsters. Cheaper than buying upgrades.

Black Flag Resynced is a full remake, not a remaster. The combat is overhauled. The stealth is overhauled. The Jackdaw handles differently. Everything you remember from the 2013 original has been rebuilt. Here is how to not waste your first 10 hours.
Upgrade the Jackdaw in this order
Do not spread your resources across every upgrade. Prioritize:
- Cargo hold, more storage means more loot per trip. Pays for itself immediately.
- Hull, you will take hits. A stronger hull keeps you in fights longer.
- Cannons, more damage per volley. Shorter fights, less repair cost.
- Mortars, for long-range engagement. Useful but not urgent.
Develop your hideout at Great Inagua to unlock advanced upgrade plans. The Elite plans are there, not at shipwrights.
Board ships. Do not sink them.
Sinking a ship gives you half the loot. Boarding gives you: full resources, crew replenishment, ship repairs, and the option to add the ship to Kenway's Fleet for passive income. Board everything you can.
Eagle Vision is not optional
Press the button. Use it constantly. It marks enemies in red, objectives in green, and interactable objects in yellow. Hold the aim button (RT/R2) on an enemy to tag them permanently through walls. This is the single most underused mechanic by new players.
Hunt animals for upgrades
Health upgrades, ammo pouches, and holster slots all require animal skins. Hunting is the cheapest way to get these materials. Do not buy what you can hunt on the first island you visit.
Stealth basics
- Bushes and haystacks hide you completely.
- Watch for the blue flash before an enemy attacks. Press the parry button during the flash for an instant counter-kill.
- Whistling from cover lures one guard at a time. Use it.
Save Legendary Ships for endgame
There are four Legendary Ships. They will destroy a stock Jackdaw. Fully upgrade your ship before attempting any of them. Recruit the three new officers, especially Tobias Smith who gives you an extra broadside volley.
Collect Mayan Stelae early
Mayan Stelae are scattered across small islands. Collecting all of them unlocks the Mayan Armor, which gives you bullet resistance. The puzzle solutions are the same as the original game. Start collecting early and you will have the armor by mid-game.
Common Beginner Mistakes
- Sinking ships instead of boarding them. Boarding gives you resources, crew, and ship upgrades. Sinking gives you nothing but a brief fireworks show. Always disable a ship with chain shot, then board.
- Upgrading hull before cannons. A tankier ship doesn't win fights faster. Upgrade cannons first, mortars second. Hull is fourth or fifth priority.
- Ignoring Eagle Vision. This is not a "nice to have." It marks enemies, objectives, and interactables through walls. New players forget it exists. Hold the aim button to tag enemies permanently.
- Fighting Legendary Ships with a base-level Jackdaw. You need Elite hull, cannons, and mortars. All three officers recruited. Minimum 80% ship completion. Go in early and you die in 30 seconds.
- Buying animal skins from shops. Hunting ocelots, iguanas, and deer on the first island costs nothing and gives the same materials. Save your reales for ship upgrades, not pelts.
