Coral Gardens Subnautica 2 Guide : Every Biome, Resource & Creature Location
Complete Coral Gardens guide for Subnautica 2. Every sub-biome, resource, creature, and base location in the starting region. Shallows to Hydrothermal Vents.
- •Coral Gardens is your home region for the first 10-15 hours. 7 sub-biomes from safe Shallows to deadly Hydrothermal Vents.
- •Best base locations: Shallows (safest), Coral Fields NW (resource-rich), near Graveyard (mid-game access to Gold/Sulfur).
- •Digestion Angel Comb is NE of Lifepod at ~160m. Heat Tolerance is in the Blighted Area. Both are in Coral Gardens.

Coral Gardens is where you spend the first 10 to 15 hours of Subnautica 2. It looks safe. It mostly is. But it also hides the Deepwing Brooder, the Great Jaw Leviathan, and the Hydrothermal Vents that will kill you without Heat Tolerance. Here is every part of it.
Coral Gardens map, 7 sub-biomes
1. Shallows (0-20m)
Your spawn point. The safest zone in the game. Warm water, bright light, no predators.
Resources: Titanium (abundant, seabed and scrap piles), Copper (cave ceilings), Quartz (seabed and coral formations), Acidic Raion Pouch (green orbs on purple plants).
Base potential: 5/5. The best spot for your first base. Flat terrain, solar power works perfectly, every basic resource is within 100 meters.
2. Jelly Barrens (20-50m)
First expansion zone. Camp One is here. The Digestion Angel Comb is here. You will spend a lot of time here.
Resources: Lead (currents near Camp One), Water Slugs (seabed), Angel Comb (Digestion), Macaron Sponges (food).
Threats: Hammerhead (annoying, not dangerous), Marrowbreach (medium, sonic resonator handles it).
Base potential: 4/5. Open space near Camp One. Water currents for hydroelectric power. Close to the Digestion Angel Comb.
3. Old Habitat / Plateaus (20-60m)
Ruined alien structures. This is where your progression takes off. The Room blueprint, Sonic Resonator fragments, Habitat Builder fragments, all here.
Resources: Blueprints (critical), Necrolei Cysts, Silver, Habitat Builder fragments.
Threats: Deepwing Brooder Leviathan. Do not enter the center of the ruins. Stick to the edges. Use buildings as cover. It cannot fit through doorways.
Base potential: 3/5. Good resources but the Brooder makes it stressful. Build here after you have defenses.
4. Blighted Area (20-40m)
Small zone east of Old Habitat. Blocked by Bloom Cankers until you have the Sonic Resonator.
Resources: Angel Comb (Heat Tolerance Adaptation).
Threats: Environmental. Bloom Cankers must be cleared with the Sonic Resonator. Without Heat Tolerance, the Hydrothermal Vents are inaccessible. This small zone gates your mid-game.
5. Hydrothermal Vents / Graveyard (50-150m)
Hot. Dangerous. Unavoidable. You need Heat Tolerance to survive here.
Resources: Gold (exclusive to this zone), Sulfur (exclusive), Lithium (also in The Hole).
Threats: Houndgar (fast, aggressive, found in groups), heat damage without Heat Tolerance. Nahema's Lab is here with the Dexterity Angel Comb.
Base potential: 2/5. Thermal power is infinite here, but the heat and predators make it a late-game outpost location, not a main base.
6. The Hole (100m+)
Deep crater in Coral Gardens. The Great Jaw Leviathan sits at the exact center with its jaws open, waiting.
Resources: Lithium, rare fragments around the edges.
Threats: Great Jaw Leviathan. Hug the walls. Do not swim over the center. Use the Sonic Resonator to escape if trapped.
7. Sea Anemone Forest (30-50m)
West of Old Habitat. Dense with flora. Peaceful compared to the rest of the region.
Resources: Necrolei Cysts (abundant here, the best farming spot).
Threats: Low. Occasional Hammerhead.
