Master wall climbing to reach ceiling spots 90% of seekers never check. Complete climbing controls, per-map routes, and advanced vertical hiding strategies.
- •Hold Space to climb walls — you can stay attached indefinitely with no stamina limit
- •90% of seekers never look above eye level. Ceilings, rafters, and high corners are safe zones
- •Use E/Q to fine-tune position, Shift to detach, Space to reattach
Why Vertical Hiding Wins Games

Here's the simple truth: 90% of seekers never look above eye level. They scan left to right at roughly 1.5-2 meters off the ground. If you can get above that scanning plane, onto ceilings, high corners, rafters, or elevated perches, you become functionally invisible to most players.
The wall climbing mechanic is how you get there.
Climbing Controls
| Action | Key | |--------|-----| | Attach to and climb up a wall | Hold Space while against a wall | | Move up while on wall | E | | Move down while on wall | Q | | Release from wall | Shift | | Stay attached indefinitely | Just keep holding Space |
Key fact: You can remain attached to a wall for as long as you want. There is no stamina or time limit.
Where to Climb on Each Map
Mansion
- Ceiling pillars in the main hall, climb to the top and lie flat.
- Chandelier chain, climb up the wall to the ceiling, then move along the chain.
- Bookshelf tops, climb to the uppermost shelf where lighting is dimmest.
- Above door frames, the lintel above doors is rarely checked.
Sewer
- Ceiling pipes, the best vertical spots on the map. Climb up and hide behind the largest pipes.
- Upper wall corners near the ceiling where shadows are darkest.
- Above graffiti walls, everyone checks the graffiti, but nobody checks ABOVE it.
Backrooms
- Ceiling light fixtures, climb up and position yourself next to (not on top of) ceiling lights. The light itself draws attention away from you.
- Top of vending machines, climb the machine and hide in the ceiling shadow above it.
- Exit sign level, climb to the height of exit signs and paint yourself as a sign.
Indoor Country
- Ceiling clouds, the painted clouds on the ceiling are perfect vertical camouflage.
- Barn rafters, dark wooden beams near the roof.
- Top of the balloon banner, climb to the ceiling and hide among the highest balloons.
Penguin Hotel
- Ballroom rafters, the grand ballroom has extensive ceiling beams.
- Top of curtains, climb the wall next to curtains and hide at the rod level.
- Second-floor ceiling corners, above the stairs, the ceiling corners are almost never checked.
Osaka
- Overhead shop signs, climb up and paint yourself as part of a sign.
- Octopus wall decoration, climb to the top of the large octopus and match its colors.
- Building ledges, small architectural ledges above street level.
Sugar Land
- Top of the chocolate fountain, the highest point with shadow concealment.
- Gingerbread house roofs, climb up and paint yourself as roof decoration.
- Ceiling among hanging candy, any hanging decorations provide vertical cover.
Advanced Climbing Techniques
The Ceiling Crawl
- Climb a wall to the ceiling.
- At the ceiling, use E/Q to move horizontally along the wall-ceiling junction.
- Find a dark corner where two walls meet the ceiling (triple junction). This is the hardest spot on any map for seekers to visually process.
The Corner Wedge
- Climb into a corner where two walls meet.
- Position yourself in the exact corner crease.
- From most angles, you'll be invisible because both walls hide you from side views.
The Drop-and-Hold
- Climb to a high position.
- Press Shift to detach.
- Immediately press and hold Space again to reattach a short distance below.
- This lets you fine-tune your vertical position without the slow E/Q climb.
The Wall-to-Ceiling Transition
- Climb a wall all the way up.
- At the ceiling, continue holding Space. Your character will transition from the wall to the ceiling.
- Now you're attached to the ceiling, looking down at seekers who never look up.
Painting for Vertical Spots
Vertical hiding requires different paint strategies:
- Match the ceiling/wall junction color, not the wall color. The junction is darker.
- Add a shadow gradient, darker at the top (near the ceiling), lighter lower down.
- Ceiling spots have cobwebs or dust, add slight gray patches to mimic wear.
- Light fixtures create harsh shadows, if hiding near one, paint yourself mostly in shadow with a small show edge.
Common Vertical Hiding Mistakes
| Mistake | Why It Fails | |---------|-------------| | Climbing too high on a short wall | Your head/body extends above the wall and is visible from the other side | | Hiding on a brightly lit ceiling | No shadows to conceal imperfect paint | | Forgetting to paint your underside | Seekers below you will see an unpainted bottom surface | | Posing wrong for vertical spots | Lie flat (starfish) against ceilings. Standing upright on a wall creates too much profile. | | Not checking the seeker's upward view | Use free cam (4) and angle it from below to see what seekers would see |

Bottom Line
If you only learn one advanced technique in Meccha Chameleon, make it wall climbing. The vertical dimension is the most underused space on every map, and the players who master it survive rounds that ground-level hiders never do.
