Meccha Chameleon July Patch Roundup — New Mode, Osaka Rework & Hunter Ammo Limits
Every Meccha Chameleon update in July 2026. Reverse Chicken Race mode, hunter bullet limits, Osaka map rework, new rotation mechanics, and the upcoming collaboration map.
- •Patch 2.3.2 added Rotate in Place, auto-switching spectator cam, and Reverse Chicken Race mode
- •Hunters now have limited ammo — misses cost bullets, hits restore them. Run out and hiders win.
- •Osaka map rework + a collaboration map are coming in update 2.5.0 later this month

Meccha Chameleon's solo dev ships patches faster than most AAA studios. Three updates in July alone. Real gameplay changes, not bug fixes.
Patch 2.3.2 (July 2), Rotation, Spectating & Chicken
Rotate in Place
You can rotate in place now. No more shuffling around to check your angle, which also exposed your position. Small change. Big deal for hiders.
Spectator Auto-Switch
Watching a friend after dying? The camera now auto-switches targets if the player you're spectating vanishes (disconnects, goes invisible, etc). No more staring at an empty wall wondering what happened.
Reverse Calculation Chicken Race
New mode. Details are sparse in the English patch notes (the Japanese dev posts more detail in Japanese), but the core concept: a countdown-based mode where players compete in reverse, the last to act wins, not the first. Think reverse chicken. Community is still figuring out the meta.
Late June Patches, Hunter Ammo & Map Randomization
Hunter Bullet Limits (Biggest Meta Change)
This one shook up the game. Hunters now have limited ammo:
- Miss a shot → lose a bullet
- Hit a hider → regain a bullet
- Run out of ammo → hiders win the round
No more spray-and-pray. If you're a hunter, you need to be sure before you shoot. If you're a hider, hunters who waste shots are now actively helping you win.
Mansion Map Randomization
The Hide-and-Seek Mansion now randomizes furniture placement between rounds. The couch you hid behind last game? Might not be there next round. This kills the meta of memorizing specific hiding spots, you have to adapt every time.
Backrooms Remastered
The Backrooms official map got a visual overhaul. Same layout, cleaner look.
3D Eyedropper & Slider Fixes
The 3D eyedropper works better now. The metal and roughness sliders actually behave as expected. If you've been avoiding these settings because they felt broken, give them another shot.
Coming Soon, Update 2.5.0
The dev teased 2.5.0 for later in July. What's in it:
Osaka Map Rework
The smallest and hardest map is getting a redesign. More cover, more vertical options, and adjusted sightlines. Osaka currently has the lowest hider survival rate of any map, this rework aims to fix that.
Collaboration Map
A new map designed with an unannounced collaborator. The tease says "mid-next week" from the last dev update, which puts it around July 15-17. Could be a streamer, another indie dev, or a brand partnership. No details yet.
Controller Support Prep
Experimental color palette changes are being tested, the dev specifically called these out as groundwork for controller support. Meccha Chameleon has been keyboard-only since launch. Controller support would open it up to a much wider audience.
TL;DR, What Changed for Your Gameplay
| Change | Affects | |--------|---------| | Hunter ammo limits | Seekers can't spray. Hiders benefit from bad aim. | | Mansion furniture randomizes | Memorizing spots no longer works. Adapt or die. | | Rotate in Place | Hiders can check angles without exposing movement. | | Reverse Chicken Race | New mode, community still figuring out optimal play. | | Osaka rework (coming) | Small map gets desperately needed rebalance. | | Controller support (prep) | Bigger player base incoming. |
