TL;DR — What You'll Learn
  • Craft the Rebreather before going below 200m. Without it, oxygen drains twice as fast.
  • Bring the Tadpole. Swimming at 300m without a vehicle is suicide.
  • Always carry a Repair Tool and spare Power Cells. A dead Tadpole at 300m kills you.

Subnautica 2 deep sea survival

The deep ocean is a different game. Light disappears. Your oxygen drains faster. The predators are bigger and more aggressive. Here is how to not die.

1. Craft the Rebreather first

Without it, oxygen consumption doubles below 200 meters. You will run out of air before you reach anything interesting. 2× Fiber Mesh, 1× System Chip. Craft it. Do not skip it.

2. Bring the Tadpole

Swimming at depth without a vehicle is suicide. The Tadpole provides oxygen, storage, and protection. If you are going below 200 meters without one, you are doing it wrong.

3. Carry a Repair Tool and spare Power Cells

A dead Tadpole at 300 meters kills you. You cannot swim to the surface before your oxygen runs out. The Repair Tool fixes hull damage. Spare Power Cells keep the engine running. Always carry both.

4. Use beacons to mark your path

The deep ocean is dark. You will get disoriented. Drop beacons at the entrance of every biome and at resource deposits. Follow them back to the surface.

5. Watch your depth gauge

Depth Module Mk.1 increases your max depth to 450m. Without it, your Tadpole crushes below 200m. Check your depth gauge constantly. If you hear creaking, go up.

6. Know the predators

Below 200 meters you will encounter Epicureans and a second Collector Leviathan. The Cavitation Muffler reduces detection range. Impact Armor reduces damage. Get both before exploring Karakorum.

7. Bring extra oxygen

The Ultra High Capacity Air Tank gives you about 150 oxygen. The Rebreather slows consumption. Oxygen Tunics refill your air without surfacing. Stack all three.

8. Light your way

The deep ocean is dark. The Tadpole has headlights. The Wakemaker has a built-in flashlight. Turn them on. You cannot avoid what you cannot see.

9. Save before every deep dive

Subnautica 2 autosaves. Do not trust it. Save manually before every deep expedition. If you die at 300 meters, you lose everything you were carrying.

10. If you hear something big, stop moving

Leviathans hunt by sound. The Cavitation Muffler helps. If you hear a roar, stop. Wait. Identify the direction. Move away slowly. Do not sprint. Sprinting attracts attention.
