Palworld 1.0 Mutation Guide : How to Get Mutated Pals & Best Breeding Cakes

Mutations give Pals higher stats, rainbow passives, and Alpha status. Here is how the system works, which cakes boost your odds, and how to farm them.

MutationBreedingPalsEndgame
TL;DR — What You'll Learn
  • Every egg has a chance to hatch a Mutated Pal. The base rate is about 0.7% with regular cake.
  • Deluxe Vegetable Cake bumps mutation odds to about 3%. This is what you should be baking.
  • Mutated Pals get higher base stats, two rainbow passives, Alpha status, and 2 free condensation stars.

Palworld mutations breeding

Mutations are the 1.0 system that makes breeding feel worth it again. Every egg has a small chance to hatch something better than the parents. Here is how to maximize those odds.

What a Mutated Pal gets

When an egg hatches mutated, the Pal comes out with:

  • Base stats rerolled into the 90-100 IV range
  • Two rainbow passive skills (one from the new exclusive pool, one from catchable rainbows)
  • Alpha status (hatches as an Alpha, bigger and stronger)
  • Two free condensation stars (saves you about 12 Pals worth of combining)
  • One high-level active skill matching its first element

It is a massive shortcut through the grind.

Mutation odds by cake type

| Cake | Base Rate | Best For | |------|:---:|-------| | Regular Cake | ~0.7% | Default. You will be here a lot. | | Deluxe Vegetable Cake | ~3% | Mutation hunting. This is what you want. | | Vegetable Cake | ~0.7% | Produces 2 eggs per cycle. Double the rolls. | | Mushroom Cake | ~0.7% | Slightly better stat growth. Skip this for mutations. | | Special Cake | ~0.7% | Improves multiple passive inheritance. Not for mutations. |

Deluxe Vegetable Cake is the mutation cake. Bake as many as you can. Run multiple Breeding Farms simultaneously.

Rainbow passives you can only get from mutations

The mutation-exclusive pool includes passives you cannot catch or breed normally:

  • Babysitter
  • Immortal
  • Heavily Armored
  • Skymarcher
  • Idiosyncratic

The second rainbow slot pulls from the catchable rainbow pool: Demon God, Eternal Engine, and others. Legend, Siren of the Void, and Savior do not come from mutations. Those must be inherited from parents.

What mutation does NOT do

Mutation does not fix bad parents. It rerolls IVs within 90-100 regardless of parent IVs. Perfect IV parents do not guarantee perfect mutation IVs. Mutation also does not change species, unlock new abilities, or fix passive skills you forgot to breed out.

Full optimization order for a perfect Pal

  1. Breed for the species, passives, and IVs you want
  2. Apply beneficial mutations
  3. Max out Condensation
  4. Invest Souls
  5. Awaken for the final stat boost

Mutation is step 2. Do not mutate a Pal with bad passives. Fix the passives first.
