Palworld 1.0 Base Building Guide : Best Locations, Layout & Automation Setup
Where to build your first base, how to lay it out, which Pals to staff, and when to build your second base for automated ore and ingot production.
- •Build your first base on flat ground near trees, stone, and ore. You will move it later. Everyone does.
- •At base level 10, build a second base near dense ore nodes and staff it with Incinerams for automated mining.
- •Foxparks or any Kindling Pal at your base = automatic cooking. Without one, you cook everything manually.

Your first base is not permanent. Build it anyway.
The starting area has limited flat land. Pick the best spot you can find near trees, stone, and at least a couple of ore nodes. Do not spend an hour looking for the perfect location. You will move your base later. Everyone moves their first base.
Base buildings in order
Build these in this order:
- Palbox, the thing that makes this a base
- Primitive Workbench for basic tools
- Stone Pickaxe and Stone Axe
- Campfire for cooking berries
- Pal Bed for resting injured Pals
- Chests. Build more than you think you need
- Repair Bench
After the tutorial, add:
- Berry Plantation (assign a Watering and Planting Pal)
- Feed Box (Pals eat from here, not your inventory)
- Hot Spring (Pals need to rest or they stop working)
Staff your base properly
Pal Work Suitability is more important than combat stats for base Pals. Each Pal has job types on their info screen.
| Job | Best Early Pal | What It Does | |-----|---------------|--------------| | Kindling | Foxparks | Cooks food, smelts ore | | Planting | Lifmunk / Tanzee | Plants crops | | Watering | Pengullet / Fuack | Waters crops | | Mining | Incineram / Rushoar | Mines ore nodes | | Logging | Eikthyrdeer | Chops trees | | Transporting | Cattiva / Lamball | Moves items between storage and crafting stations |
Foxparks is the most important early base Pal. Without Kindling, you stand at the campfire pressing F.
Second base at level 10: the mining outpost
At base level 10 you unlock a second Palbox. Do not build another main base. Build a mining outpost.
Find a spot with dense copper ore nodes. Place the second Palbox. Staff it with Incinerams (Level 2 Mining + Level 3 Kindling). Add one Hot Spring and a Feed Box. The Pals will mine ore and smelt it into ingots while you are elsewhere playing the game.
This is the single most important base upgrade in the first 20 hours. Manual mining is a waste of your time.
New in 1.0: water bases
The Aquatic Construction Kit lets you build on water. Useful if you find a lake near good resources. Not necessary for your first base, but good to know for later.
