AC Black Flag Resynced Story Walkthrough: Complete Main Mission Guide
Full story walkthrough for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. Every main mission, key boss fights, and critical choices explained. Spoiler warnings provided.
- •The main story takes 25-30 hours. Focus on upgrading the Jackdaw as early as possible — hull and broadside cannons first.
- •Mission 'The Fort' (Sequence 6) is the skill check. If you struggle here, go back and upgrade your ship.
- •Craft the pistol holster and health upgrades before Sequence 9. The final sequences have long combat gauntlets.

The story of AC Black Flag Resynced follows Edward Kenway — pirate, opportunist, and accidental Assassin. This walkthrough covers every main sequence, marks the difficulty spikes, and tells you what to prepare before each one. Spoilers are kept to mission objectives only.
Prologue: The Early Grind (Sequences 1–3)
What happens: Edward washes up on a deserted island, kills an Assassin defector, steals his robes, and impersonates him to claim a reward in Havana. This is the tutorial section — you learn parkour, combat basics, and ship sailing.
What to prioritize:
- Loot every chest and body you see. Early game money is tight.
- Hunt animals on every island you visit. Pelts are crafting materials — especially ocelot and jaguar pelts for the pistol holster upgrade.
- Do not spend money on sword upgrades yet. Ship upgrades matter more.
Act 1: Building the Jackdaw (Sequences 4–5)
What happens: You escape Havana with a captured Spanish brig, rename it the Jackdaw, and begin assembling a crew. You meet James Kidd (who is actually Mary Read), Blackbeard, and the rest of your pirate allies.
The Jackdaw upgrade priority list:
| Priority | Upgrade | Why | |----------|---------|-----| | 1 | Hull Armor Lv.2 | Keeps you alive against frigates | | 2 | Broadside Cannons Lv.2 | Main damage source | | 3 | Mortars | Lets you soften forts from range | | 4 | Heavy Shot | Pierces armor on Man O' Wars | | 5 | Ram | Situational — skip if short on resources |
Harpooning tip: During the whaling tutorial mission, harpoon as many whales as you can before leaving. Whale skins sell for high prices and fund your first two upgrades.
Act 2: The Pirate Republic (Sequence 6) — First Difficulty Spike
What happens: You assault Fort Castillo de San Salvador de la Punta in Havana. This is the game's first real test.
Why players fail here: They show up with an un-upgraded Jackdaw. The fort's mortars outrange your base cannons and the defending ships swarm you while you try to find an opening.
How to win:
- Before starting the mission, have Hull Lv.2, Broadside Lv.2, and Mortars unlocked.
- Approach from the north side — fewer mortars face that direction.
- Stay at maximum mortar range. Fire two volleys, then reposition. Do not sit still.
- Once the fort is at 50% health, two Spanish frigates spawn. Ignore the fort temporarily and sink the frigates first.
- Board the frigates — the free repair saves you from dying during the fort's final mortar barrage.
Act 3: Betrayal and Loss (Sequences 7–9)
What happens: Things get dark. Blackbeard dies. Mary Read dies in prison while you escape. Edward begins questioning his life choices. This is the emotional core of the game.
Combat preparation: Before Sequence 9, craft these:
- Pistol Holster II (need ocelot and jaguar pelts)
- Health Upgrade II
- At least 10 medicine pouches
The prison escape gauntlet has no checkpoint for 15+ minutes of continuous combat. Running out of medicine here means restarting the whole sequence.
Act 3.5: The Observatory (Sequences 10–11)
What happens: You hunt the Sage (Bartholomew Roberts) to the Observatory, an ancient First Civilization site that can spy on anyone in the world through their blood. Roberts betrays you. You kill him.
Key decision point: At the end of Sequence 10, a timed choice appears — save Roberts or let him fall. Both lead to the same outcome, but the "save" option gives you a unique sword skin.
Act 4: Redemption (Sequence 12–Epilogue)
What happens: Edward kills the Templar grandmaster Torres, returns to England, and meets his daughter Jennifer for the first time. The post-credits scene shows Edward, Jennifer, and Haytham arriving at a theater in London — tying directly into AC3.
The Legendary Ships: These 4 optional boss ships are harder than any story mission. Wait until the Jackdaw is fully upgraded before attempting them. Each drops 20,000 Reales on defeat.
Quick Reference: Mission Count by Sequence
| Sequence | Missions | Difficulty | Key Upgrade Needed | |----------|----------|------------|--------------------| | 1-3 (Prologue) | 13 | Easy | None — tutorial | | 4-5 (Jackdaw) | 10 | Easy-Medium | Hull Lv.1, Broadside Lv.1 | | 6 (The Fort) | 5 | Hard | Hull Lv.2, Broadside Lv.2, Mortars | | 7-9 (Dark Arc) | 11 | Medium-Hard | Pistol Holster II, Health II | | 10-11 (Observatory) | 9 | Medium | Broadside Lv.3 | | 12-Epilogue (End) | 6 | Hard | Full upgrades recommended |
