TL;DR — What You'll Learn
  • There are 35 sea shanty pages scattered across the map. They appear as floating, glowing sheets of paper; chase them to collect.
  • Each shanty adds a song to your crew's playlist. The more shanties you collect, the more variety during sailing.
  • Shanties in towns require parkour chasing. Do not chase on foot; get on the rooftops and cut them off.
  • The 3 shanties in Havana are the hardest. The rooftops are uneven and the pages change direction mid-flight.

Black Flag sea shanties collection

Sea shanties are not just collectibles; they define the atmosphere of Black Flag Resynced. Every shanty you find expands your crew's vocal repertoire while sailing the open ocean. There are 35 shanty pages total, and each page is a small white sheet of paper that flies away the moment you get close. You must chase and catch it.

How Chasing Shanties Works

  1. Find a glowing white page floating in the air (rotates slowly, emits a faint musical chime).
  2. Walk toward it; it will fly away in a random direction.
  3. Chase it. It flies for about 15-20 seconds, changing direction 3-5 times.
  4. Catch it by running through it.

The key insight most players miss: The shanty page always follows a pre-set path. If you fail, the page resets to its starting position. Watch its path on the first attempt. On the second attempt, run ahead of it; do not chase behind it. You can predict where it is going next.

Shanties by Region

Havana (3 shanties); Hardest Parkour

These three are the hardest shanty chases in the game. Havana's rooftops are uneven, there are gaps between buildings that kill your momentum, and the pages frequently change direction in mid-air.

Strategy: Do not chase on ground level. Climb to the highest rooftop near the shanty's spawn point before triggering it. The page flies upward, so starting on a rooftop gives you a 2-second head start on the chase.

Nassau (5 shanties)

These shanties are clustered around the pirate republic's harbor and market areas. The chase paths are simpler than Havana; mostly straight-line flights over the docks. Watch for NPCs in the market area who can block your path.

Kingston (4 shanties)

Kingston's shanties spawn near the waterfront warehouses. The rooftops here are flat and connected; this is the easiest town for shanty chasing. You can sprint across the warehouse roofs without stopping.

Small Islands (12 shanties)

These are scattered across random small islands and are the easiest to collect; no parkour, no crowds, just flat ground. Most pages fly along the shoreline, so start the chase from the water's edge (the opposite direction from where you approach) to cut them off.

Main Harbor Towns (6 shanties)

Cabo de Cruz, Tortuga, and a few smaller ports each have 1-2 shanties. Average difficulty. Use the general strategy: watch the first path, then intercept on the second attempt.

Fort Islands (5 shanties)

These shanties spawn near captured forts. Since forts have no civilians and flat ground, these are easy; comparable to small islands. The page flies in wide circles around the fort courtyard.

Full Song List (Partial)

Not all 35 shanties are equally good. Here are the best ones worth prioritizing:

| Song | What It Sounds Like | Location Hint | |------|---------------------|---------------| | "Drunken Sailor" | The classic. Your crew belts it out at full volume. | Havana, main cathedral rooftop | | "Leave Her, Johnny" | A slower, melancholic shanty. Beautiful at sunset. | Kingston, east warehouse district | | "Randy Dandy-O" | Fast-paced and rowdy. Fits combat sailing. | Nassau, near the tavern | | "Spanish Ladies" | The most famous naval shanty. Crew favorite. | Small island east of Havana | | "Roll the Old Chariot Along" | Rhythmic. Crew stomps their feet. | Fort San Juan, after capturing it | | "Bully in the Alley" | Lively. Great for calm seas. | Cabo de Cruz docks | | "Fish in the Sea" | Upbeat, catchy. Gets stuck in your head. | Tortuga, upper town |

Pro Tips for Efficient Collection

Use fast travel: After collecting a shanty, fast travel to the nearest viewpoint to the next one. Sailing between shanties wastes time.

Do not collect during missions: Shanties do not spawn while you are on a story or side mission. If you are hunting shanties and nothing appears, check if a mission is active in your log.

The Eagle Vision trick: Aim Eagle Vision at a shanty page before approaching it. The page's flight path is highlighted in pale blue; you see the entire route before you even start the chase.

Sound cue: When a shanty page is nearby, you hear music notes faintly in the background. The sound gets louder as you get closer. Use headphones; the directional audio helps pinpoint the exact building the shanty is on.

Full collection reward: Collecting all 35 shanties unlocks a unique shanty ("The Parting Glass") that only plays once; when you sail away from Great Inagua for the final time. It is the most emotional moment in the game's soundtrack and a fitting reward for dedicated collectors.
